Biographical Sketch:

Joe Klein is an American journalist and author. Among other publications, Joe Klein wrote a biography of Woody Guthrie entitled, Woody Guthrie: A Life, published in 1980. These interviews were conducted by Joe Klein while collecting data for this book.

Scope and Content:

Joe Klein interviewed approximately 100 individuals who knew Guthrie during his life. These tapes –which have been digitally transferred from the original audiocassettes onto CD– are a unique source of information not only on Guthrie, but also on those individuals being interviewed. Conducted in the 1980’s, the interviews feature first-hand accounts from those close to Guthrie, many of whom were never interviewed elsewhere.
