From the artist:
Beppe Gambetta is a guitarist, vocalist, researcher and composer born in Genova, Italy who developed a style that brings American and European Roots to speak together with one voice. In his unique approach, Beppe blends energetic grooves with passionate melodies, giving new life to sources from different times, periods and places. In addition, the original music he composes gives contemporary influences to traditional roots music.
As a teenager in Italy, Beppe became fascinated by the music of the great American acoustic guitar masters of the 1960s and 1970s. His passion led to a prolific career that has now taken him to venues as varied as the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and to performances in all 50 US states and throughout North America, Europe, Australia and South America.
Over the course of his career, Beppe has been inspired by great artists who actively worked to make the world a better place including two he was fortunate to spend time with before they died: Pete Seeger and the late European singer-songwriter icon Fabrizio De Andrè. He also has been grateful to have performed with some of his heroes from the folk scene including David Grisman, Gene Parsons, Doc Watson, Norman Blake, Tony Rice, Darrell Scott, and others. And, in his spare time, Beppe has produced numerous books and DVDs in different languages.
Beppe Gambetta’s latest CD entitled Short Stories will be released on October 1st by the highly respected Canadian label Borealis (borealisrecords.com). This will be Beppe’s 13th album and is inspired more than ever by his trans-national life on the road. As his time in recent years has been equally divided between North-America and Europe, he has found opportunities to explore territories, landscapes, people and stories from both sides of the Ocean.
The beauty and range of Short Stories comes from the melding of many of Beppe’s diverse musical passions. It creates a 40-minute journey through three original compositions, four songs with innovative arrangements in four languages (English, German, Italian and Genovese), two catchy melodies transcribed and adapted for flatpicking guitar and one exciting live performance from Beppe’s annual international music production, “The Acoustic Nights.”
Beppe is a trans-national ambassador of music performing with the clear hope that music can both entertain, and enhance and strengthen human relations. The new album captures Beppe continuing his path of artistic research, travel and study where communication among many peoples is far more important than the hot fast licks he is also known for. Borealis is proud to be releasing Beppe Gambetta’s 13th album (and 2nd on their label).
