WOODY GUTHRIE CENTER TO HOST EXHIBIT, “MY EYE TO A LENS: MUSIC PHOTOGRAPHY BY DAVID GAHR” BEGINNING JUNE 28

Tulsa, Okla. (May 2, 2024) The Woody Guthrie Center announced the upcoming exhibition, “My Eye to a Lens: Music Photography by David Gahr,” set to open on June 28.

This exhibit showcases the work of photographer David Gahr, renowned for his iconic portraits of music legends. Gahr’s collection captures pivotal moments in the careers of musicians such as Aretha Franklin, Bruce Springsteen, Prince, Joni Mitchell and more. The photographs featured in the exhibit range from depicting the raw energy of live performances, intimate moments in green rooms, jovial and lively scenes during photoshoots and more.

“This exhibition complements the Woody Guthrie Center’s mission of celebrating the transformative power of music in American culture,” said Cady Shaw, Director of the Woody Guthrie Center. “David Gahr’s incredible photography not only honors the iconic musicians featured but also serves as a visual testament to the diverse voices and experiences that have shaped our musical landscape.”

Visitors can expect to delve into Gahr’s robust catalog and encounter iconic moments from intimate portraits to famous record covers, postage stamps and more.

A special members’ opening preview will take place on June 27, offering an exclusive first look at this captivating collection.

Additionally, in support of the exhibit, the Woody Guthrie Center will host photographer Jeff Fasano on July 27 for a presentation that will provide a first-person perspective on capturing the essence of musicians through the camera lens.
