“Hip-Hop America: The Mixtape Exhibit” – Member Opening

A special members’ opening preview will take place on Friday, March 28, offering an exclusive first look at the new exhibition, “Hip-Hop America: The Mixtape Exhibit” curated by the GRAMMY Museum®.

This exhibit delves deep into the multifaceted world of hip-hop through expansive exhibits on hip-hop music, dance, graffiti, fashion, business, activism and history, providing visitors with an immersive experience that explores the profound impact and influence of hip-hop culture.

Jasen Emmons, Chief Curator and Vice President of Curatorial Affairs at the GRAMMY Museum, will do a 15 – 20 minute slide presentation about the exhibit and curatorial direction, followed by a Q&A.

Since 2022, in his current role at the GRAMMY Museum, Jasen Emmons has curated and co-curated multiple exhibits, including “Hip-Hop America: The Mixtape Exhibit,” “Sonic Playground,” “The Roxy: 50 & Still Rockin’” and “Shakira, Shakira.” Prior to joining the GRAMMY Museum, he was the curatorial director for 15 years at Experience Music Project in Seattle, WA, and helped guide its evolution into becoming the Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP). During his tenure at EMP/MoPOP, Emmons curated “Bob Dylan’s American Journey, 1956-1966,” the first museum exhibit about Dylan, which debuted at EMP before touring nationally.
