Woody Guthrie Prize

woodie_guthrie_pete_seeger_t607We are pleased to announce the establishment of the Woody Guthrie Prize and its first recipient, Pete Seeger, a champion of social justice and the environment as well as a political activist.

The Woody Guthrie Prize will be given annually to the artist who best exemplifies the spirit and life work of Woody Guthrie by speaking for the less fortunate through music, film, literature, dance, or other art forms and serving as a positive force for social change in America.

There could be no better recipient for this inaugural award than Pete Seeger, who embodies the spirit of the award and continues to keep Woody’s legacy alive. Seeger will be honored with a concert featuring Arlo Guthrie along with Tony Trischka on February 22 at New York City’s Symphony Space.  Please refer to our News page for further information.
