On Sunday, July 16, the Woody Guthrie Center is hosting the Woody Guthrie Poets, featuring a wide variety of poets working in the mode of Woody Guthrie. The theme for this year’s reading is “A Workin’ Man’s Hand is the Hardest Card in the Whole Damn Deck to Play,” drawing inspiration from Guthrie’s song “The Last One”, which was recently put to music and recorded by the Dropkick Murphys.
In response to Woody’s message, these poets were “called upon to reconvene, to read and recite poetry… in celebration of ‘workin’ man’ in all its beautiful forms and functions.”
An anthology of work from the Woody Guthrie Poets will be available from Fine Dog Press.
The reading will start at 2 p.m. in the Woody Guthrie Center theater. Admission is free with paid admission to the center on the day of the event.
