Last night most of the Woody Guthrie Center staff was in New York celebrating the first Woody Guthrie Prize event honoring Pete Seeger. Here in Tulsa we streamed the celebration in the Center’s theater, which became alive with joy and laughter as each story of Pete was recounted by those who love him so much.
It is well known that Pete was an incredible banjo player. Steve Martin was even inspired by Pete’s banjo music and spoke about it at the Prize event. He said that Pete’s book, How to Play the 5-String Banjo, was his introduction to playing!
We are fortunate to have one of the banjo’s Pete played here on display at the Woody Guthrie Center. Please come and see this incredible piece of music history played for a true advocate for social justice!
