“All you can write is what you see.” – Woody Guthrie

As a school teacher, I know that these words from Woody are very true. Our goal as an educational resource is to provide a multi-sensory experience to students, teachers, researchers, and academics as we engage learners through the experiences of Woody Guthrie and others who lived during the Dust Bowl era. The influence of this era and the ideas that Woody promoted about the power of the common folks who speak out about their world can be traced to contemporary performers—“Woody’s Children.”  We hope that through the lessons that will be created with the Woody Guthrie Center as a resource, a new generation will be encouraged to find their own voices and recognize the potential power that one person has to create change in the world.

In addition to our education outreach, we are pleased to be part of the cultural landscape of Tulsa and the revitalization of the downtown area. This awakening of artistic endeavors in the Brady district will branch out to include not only local and regional patrons, but will expand and bring international attention to the area. We look forward to welcoming those who make the pilgrimage to the Woody Guthrie Center and experience Woody’s enduring legacy.

Please contact my staff or me should you have any suggestions or comments that will help us make the center an even better experience for all involved. We are thrilled that Woody’s Road has led him back home to Oklahoma!
